BHAI MARDANA JI ON HIS 491st AKAL CHALANA ANNIVERSARY
Bhai Mardana Ji (1459-1534) had the privilege of spending all his life with Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji (1469-1539), the first Guru of the Sikhs. He was born in 1459 in Rai Bhoe Ki Talwandi, in Sheikhupura District which is now in Pakistan i.e. the same place which is the birth place of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Being the birth place of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, this place is now known as Nankana Sahib.

SRI GURU TEGH BAHADUR SAHIB: A PROPHET AND A MARTYR
Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib, the ninth prophet-teacher of the Sikhs was cruelly martyred by beheading him on November 11, 1675 in Chandni Chowk, Delhi under the orders of Emperor Aurangzeb. Besides martyring Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib, Aurangzeb also passed orders that the whole family of the person who goes near the deceased's body will be annihilated.

Sri Guru Nank Dev Ji the founder of Sikh religion was born on April 15, 1469 at Rai Bhoi Ki Talvandi now named Nankana Sahib but by tradition his birth anniversary is celebrated world-wide on the full-moon day in the month of Kartik, the eighth desi month which coincides with October-November.

Bhagat Namdev Ji also spelled as Nam Dev Ji, his full name being Namdev Damaji Relekar is one of the 15 Bhagats whose hymns Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji included in Sri Adi Granth Sahib. In compiling Sri Adi Granth Sahib Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji, in addition to the hymns of his predecessor Sikh Gurus and his own hymns included the hymns of 15 Bhagats, 11 Bhatts and four others closely associated with the Sikh Gurus. These 15 Bhagats include (i) Bhagat Jaidev Ji (ii) Sheikh Farid Ji (iii) Bhagat Trilochan Ji (iv) Bhagat Namdev Ji (v) Bhagat Sadhna Ji (vi) Bhagat Ramanand Ji (vii) Bhagat Ravidas Ji (viii) Bhagat Kabir Ji (ix) Bhagat Sain Ji (x) Bhagat Dhanna Ji (xi) Bhagat Pipa Ji (xii) Bhagat Beni Ji (xiii) Bhagat Bhikhan Ji (xiv) Bhagat Sur Das Ji and (xv) Bhagat Parmanand Ji.

Sri Guru Ram Das Ji was born in Chuna Mandi Bazaar, Lahore (now in Pakistan) on September 24, 1534. The existing Gurdwara called Gurdwara Janam Asthan Sri Guru Ram Das Ji has been built at the place of the earlier Gurdwara in Multan Mohalla Kucha Jamadaran, walled city of Lahore (Pakistan). His early name was Jetha Ji. He was born and spent his early childhood at this place.

TWO VALOROUS SHAHIDS OF 18th CENTURY: BHAI MEHTAB SINGH JI AND BHAI SUKHA SINGH JI
The Sikh history of 18th century is replete with horrent Sakas of Shahids. In addition to the two Ghallugharas – Chhota Ghallughara (1746) and Wadda Ghallughara (1762) a series of valorous Shahids – Baba Banda Singh Bahadur JI (1916), Bhai Taru Singh Ji (1727), Bhai Mani Singh Ji (1738), Bhai Bota Singh Ji and Bhai Garja Singh Ji (1939), Bhai Haqiqat Rai Ji (1742), Bhai Taroo Singh Ji (1745), Bhai Subeg Singh Ji and his son Bhai Shahbaz Singh Ji (1945), Baba Dip Singh JI (1757), Bhai Mehtab Singh Ji also spelled as Bhai Matab Singh Ji) and Bhai Sukha Singh Ji who assassinated Masse Khan Raghar in 1740 are unforgettable and every Sikh will remember these Shahids for their courage, stead fastens and fearlessness for all times to come. In addition to these several other Sikhs who sacrificed their lives to uphold their religious belief will be also always remembered with respect.
